soul sisters

Over the past twenty-six+ years of my life, I have encountered many beautiful souls, both female and male. Some of these souls I knew for minutes, hours, day, weeks, and for some years and years. All of them have made an impression, some I believe my soul has known for all of time. Over the past years, I have kept a journal which I write in at least every other day. Sometimes I write nonsense and other times I write more genuine things. Last year I started designating days to write about individual people and their influence on my life. I have decided to share these private journal entries in this blog entry. The first person I wrote about was my mother and the following four woman who I call my ‘soul sisters’:

I met Vanessa at birth; she is the daughter of my dad’s sister. And she was age four when we met for the first time. We have had a deep spiritual connection our entire lives. I was a very shy, quiet child and would not talk to anyone other than my parents and Vanessa. She was my first best friend. I was very fortunate that my dad and his siblings were all very close and all of their children (my cousins) and me were all raised together. Vanessa is more than a cousin-she is my sister, my best friend, one of my soul mates. We spent many summers together, year after year pretending we were mermaids, swimming in the pool from morning to night, only breaking for potty and lunch. As we grew older, Vanessa was the first to show me how to apply makeup, how to drive a car and other than my mother, taught me the ways of cooking vegetarian food. She was also the one person I always knew I could go to for advice or ask embarrassing questions to.
Vanessa was also a huge influence on many of my accomplishments, from swimming to traveling to learning vegetarianism to being able to talk to boys as well as taking an interest in yoga. Vanessa is a single mother of two, she had her first very young and I witnessed, and was a part of her raising that child and her second. She is a very strong, brave, independent woman that completely amazes me with her ability to raise two girls on her own and at the moment she is working and studying. Although I am younger then her, I can say that I am very proud of her. The Universe gives her challenge after challenge, yet she overcomes each one by one. At the end of the day, she is still so grateful for all of it. I admire and look-up to Vanessa. She is just amazing.

I met Kristi in 1997, when she was in the 6th grade and I was in the 7th grade. I actually met her through our friend Marie. I walked home with Marie one day after school and she wanted me to meet Kristi, so we stopped by her class. I remember waiting outside of the class for the bell to ring-Kristi was wearing overalls and her hair in pigtails. We ended up going to Kristi’s house to jump on her trampoline. Her and I became best friends nearly over night. We always made each other laugh and always knew we could act a fool in front of each other.
When I think back over all the years spent with Kristi so many different things pop out—Dressing up in boas and tiaras and walking around Disneyland with English accents, finding purple glitter paint and finger painting her entire bedroom wall with complete randomness, being obsessed together with Austin powers and pet detective, and just being completely silly and carefree. I want to say that I spent every single weekend over at Kristi’s dad’s house all of my eighth grade year. We would walk home together after school on Friday and I would go home by late Sunday night e v e r y SINGLE weekend. Some how we would convince her mom to take us toilet papering quite often or we would stay up late baking (and burning) cookies and frozen pizzas, or prank calling everyone whose numbers we had. Basically Kristi and I had so much fun together being teenagers.
As we grew older, the fun became even more fun, since we shared a love for jagermeister, Chicago, tattoos, suicide girls, dancing, sunbathing and cute boys.  As I am typing this soooo many different occasions are coming into mind, I could write for days all the amazing moments we have had together. If Kristi were a man, I would make her my husband, lover and father of my children. That is why I made Kristi my wifey in 2003. We also have two children, which we are never quite sure of their whereabouts. Haha, Kristi is my best friend, even throughout all the years, and the occasional drama we have still persevered and love each other even that much more. Kristi gets me, without me even having to say a word. I feel so lucky that she is in my life, and has been for more than half of it. I look forward to one day having Kristi as one of my bridesmaid on my wedding day and witnessing our own children grow up together. Kristi is one of the most beautiful girls I know and I will love her till the end of time.

Beautiful Fatima, where do I begin…I was introduced to Fatima by Marcel in Autumn 2006. Marcel had always talked about Fatima and told me she was his bestest friend, and more or less told me he needed her approval of me. Consequently, I was a bit nervous to meet the ‘famous’ Famita. In spite of this, we were introduced and instantly a new friendship blossomed. She was sweet, beautiful and kind-hearted. I understood exactly why she was his best friend. We got along so well that the two of us were hanging out even without Marcel around. Fatima also helped me get a job at the Beauty Place in Long Beach after I moved home from Monterey Bay. We had a lot of fun working together, and continued getting to know each other even more and more. Once we both stopped working there we still continued to meet up once a week (if not more) for a coffee date & gossip.
Fatima has always been there for me, even when she was living in Seattle and I was living in Orange County. Although Fatima was originally Marcel’s best friend, she and I gradually became closer than the two of them, without any intention of that happening. When I split with Marcel, she continued to be by my side and help me through my rollercoaster of emotions. Fatima has been by my side the last several years through the good times and the bad times and has never once not been there when I needed her, even when I was living on the other side of the equator in Australia. Sometimes, weeks and weeks would pass without any contact with one another, but the amazing thing is that when we would talk and see each other again, it was as if there was never any time at all between us. Fatima continues to amaze me with her generosity and beauty. Fatima is truly an angel on Earth.

I still remember the exact moment that I met Belinda. It was mid-May 2010 at the bosque in Mexico.  The first impression I had of Belinda was her beauty. She is absolutely stunning, and right away I knew it was not just beauty from the outside, but also within. She had a glow that followed her and all those that came in contact with her.  Although I have known Belinda for just about two years now, it feels much longer than that. It actually felt as if I had known her my whole life just after the first few days getting to know her. We are both Scorpios and share many of the same traits. Every time I start chatting with Belinda we find more and more in common, yet I feel as if I learn so much from her. She has been one of my greatest teachers. Bel’s kindness and generosity towards all those she comes in contact with is so inspirational and moving. She fully embodies divine light and love.
After spending several weeks with Bel in Mexico we went our separate ways for a bit, then we were reunited in Spain, then again in Thailand, where we traveled together through Thailand and Indonesia, making our way to Australia. Belinda is originally from Australia, so it was exciting for both of us landing in Australia, she had been away for over a year and I was arriving in my new home. Although Belinda and I didn’t live in the same city in Australia, we still managed to meet up several times throughout the year and every time it was like we were never even separated. On November 19, Belinda and Owen (her just as incredible life partner) were married. I was so ecstatic to witness the two deepen their love for one another. And when I returned to Australia, I was even more thrilled about meeting their beautiful baby boy, Azuren. Watching Bel interact with him blew my mind. She was born to be a mother. She is so gentle, so sweet, so patient and so loving. I am back in the United States now, and although I don’t speak to Bel everyday, I sure do think about her often and send her all the happy energy I possibly can. Belinda will always remain one of my best friends; she is my Scorpio soul sister.

I genuinely am a blessed human to have encountered & befriended all of these beautiful women. The Universe is incredible And I am so thankful. Along with these ladies, there are so many other beautiful people that have inspired me and changed my life. I cant begin to show my gratitude and love to all of them, thank you, thank you.
